Youth Hubs: The Heart of Bytes’ Mission –
A New Charity for a New Era
The Bytes Project has always believed that young people thrive when they have safe, accessible spaces where they can develop, learn, and belong. This core principle has driven our expansion from two to thirteen youth hubs across Northern Ireland, and now it’s leading us to an exciting new chapter: the establishment of a dedicated Youth Hubs charity.
In communities across Northern Ireland, particularly those facing significant socio-economic challenges, young people often lack accessible spaces where they can develop personally, socially, and educationally. Our research shows that 42.1% of young people in certain areas report paramilitary influence in their communities, while many more face barriers including limited access to technology, fewer positive role models, and restricted opportunities for personal growth.
Our Strategic Commitment to Youth Hub Development
The creation of our new Youth Hubs charity reflects our deepest commitment to this transformative approach. Through strategic expansion, we’ve already demonstrated the power of place-based youth work:
- From two to thirteen hubs across Northern Ireland, with five delivered fully by Bytes and eight through strategic partnerships
- Almost 2,000 young people are registered with us accessing consistent and high-quality youth provision
- Strategic geographic reach ensuring no young person is more than 5 miles from support by 2030
Youth Hubs bridge these gaps by providing more than just physical spaces—they create sanctuaries of development where young people can build the skills, relationships, and confidence needed to thrive.
The Youth Work Methodology That Makes the Difference
Their grounding in relationship-based practice distinguishes our youth hubs. At the core of every hub are:
- Long-term, consistent relationships with trusted adults who become mentors and advocates
- Tailored development pathways from personal development to digital skills certification
- Community integration connecting young people to wider opportunities and networks
- Holistic support addressing not just skills but the whole person and their circumstances
Looking Ahead: 25 Youth Hubs by 2030
Youth Hubs, as our new charity, will drive an ambitious expansion to 25 youth hubs, each with its own youth leadership group. This growth isn’t just about numbers—it’s about ensuring that every young person in Northern Ireland has access to high-quality youth provision that can transform their life trajectory.
The establishment of this dedicated charity demonstrates our unwavering belief that youth hubs aren’t just a service we provide—they’re fundamental to creating a Northern Ireland where all young people can fulfil their potential, regardless of postcode or family circumstances.
Through safe spaces, skilled staff, and meaningful development pathways, we’re building more than youth centres. We’re building hope, opportunity, and the foundation for Northern Ireland’s future.
