Recently, Bytes took part in a limited project working with young people from Scotch Street Youth & Community Centre, Portadown (SSYCC) over an eight-week period.

Given the current COVID-19 restrictions, the entire project was carried out via Zoom. Participants attended sessions - run by Bytes Youth Workers Ryan Cuddy & Ryan Moorehead - on a Monday night and worked through the course entirely remotely. Working with a small number of young people with a single specific goal in mind, this project is both an example of the targeted work that Bytes can do with individual youth centres and of how we have adapted our delivery methods during the COVID-19 period so far.

For the past eight weeks we have been partnering with The Bytes Project and undertaking a Level 2 OCN Certificate in Vocational Skills. Bytes facilitated this OCN, which saw eleven of our senior members faithfully attended each week and enjoying learning about citizenship, interpersonal skills, confidence & self-esteem, setting and achieving goals & leadership skills. I would highly recommend Bytes and this OCN to other groups.’

During this project, we worked with participants to complete a Level 2 OCN Certificate in Vocational Skills, focused around five core themes:

  • Citizenship;
  • Interpersonal Skills;
  • Confidence & Self-Esteem;
  • Setting and Achieving Personal Goals;
  • Leadership Skills.

The young people we worked with engaged very well during the project and put forward a number of fantastic ideas and suggestions relating to each module/theme. These included some amazing future aspirations for both themselves and SSYCC, which we would like to wish them all the best of success in achieving!

Our final session with this fab group from Scotch Street Youth & Community Centre last night 😢 Our staff have loved...
