Young People Raise £1,500 to produce a suicide awareness leaflet
On Friday 12th August the Help Us Help Ourselves group held fundraiser in aid of suicide awareness. The night was a great success with the group raising £1,500 for their cause. The night ran smoothly with sponsored chest waxing, a raffle and a lantern lighting in memory of those that lost their lives to suicide. A big thank you to the brave men that had their chest waxed who between them rose over £500 pounds for the group and thank you also goes out to all the business’s that generously donated the prizes for the raffle. The group will be creating a suicide awareness leaflet for young people by young people with the proceeds of this event. Thank you to all those who bought tickets for this event and to those who attended the event on the night. Thank you also to the Colin Mill for the use of their venue on the night. A big well done to the Help Us Help Ourselves group who all worked very hard to make this event happen.

The Help Us Help Ourselves suicide awareness and intervention group set up in the Colin area of Belfast. The group was established in 2010 after a high level of family members and friends took their own lives within a 5 month period.
Our group have been working tirelessly within the area for the past year offering support to our peers. We have been involved in a number of initiatives:
- Organized several Petition Signing Day collecting over 6000 signatures
- Lobbied all MLA’s from different political parties
- Met with Deputy First Minister at a community crisis meeting
- Successfully gained funding from O2 Think Big to design and make group hoodies.
- Assisted a number of young people through difficult situations
