Creative ICT in Youth Work

Bytes is ground breaking in our use of the very latest digital, ICT and online tools as a method of youth work engagement. We use the latest creative ICT to engage with the most socially excluded young people in Northern Ireland.

We are pioneering the latest technology to engage young people in enjoyable activities that introduce them to computer science and STEM subjects in an informal learning environment. This includes Scratch coding, Minecraft gaming, Lego Mindstorm, robots, Raspberry Pi computer building, video filming editing and web design. Our Mega Bytes Champions Summer Camp is the biggest initiative of this kind to be piloted in Northern Ireland.

Bytes also uses creative ICT as a method for building cross community contact and relationships and learning on cultural diversity and building a united community. We support innovation in online participation and using social media as a way of sustaining friendships and learning well beyond the lifetime of a project. We are also committed to developing pathways to ensure young people can progress up to Level 3 in ICT & Computer Science. Bytes is keen to share our learning and experience of digital youth work practice with other groups and organisations as an effective way of engaging with the most hard to reach young people.
