With funding provided by CRC Bytes worked in collaboration with FASA to run a drugs project in both the Newlodge and Shankill Bytes centres. This project was based on drugs awareness with all participants gaining a Level 1 drugs awareness qualification as well as a bronze level youth achievement award. The final session of the project saw young people from both centres meeting up together for a celebratory night of bowling and dining out. During the course of the project FASA was approached to meet with UTV regarding a website produced by the family of a drug user who died from an overdose last year.
The website was launched on Tuesday 29th August 2006 exactly one year after his death and Alex from FASA attended Newlodge Bytes with a filming crew from UTV to be interviewed and to allow UTV to interview Bytes young people for their views and feedback on the website. This was a success and the users watched the coverage on UTV that evening. This was also recorded to be kept by Bytes and should be accessible through the UTV website.
