Project steps up a gear
Derry Journal,
Friday 25th February, 2005
The latest in a series of cross border youth projects will kick off on March
8 at Forward Emphasis International in Malin Head.
The scheme will run for 17
weeks and is a partnership between Derry Bytes and Malin Head Youth Club.
This is the fourth in a
series of cross border youth programmes which will build on the successes of
the previous three, all of which involved youth from Derry and Inishowen
working on ICT based projects through themed workshops, outdoor activities
and a residential.
The project was launched in
October 2003 aiming at four programmes over a two-year period. The programme
is aimed at 16-25 year olds who are not currently in full-time work or
education / training and will incorporate approximately four hours per week
through informal ICT skills training through website development, newsletter
work and the option of doing the OCR Basic ICT Skills.
Both groups will work
together on Wednesday afternoons in Derry with transport provided for
Insihowen participants. There will also be the option og working
towards the Duke of Edinburgh Award and the President's Award as well as a
three-day residential packed with outstanding activities. There is a
strong sense of fun involved in the programme!
Ultimately it hopes to
encourage unemployed, unattached young people to re-enter full-time
education, vocational training or find employment.
The Project is funded by
the Dept. of Education and the Dept. of Education and Science, through PEACE
II. The programme will kick off at 6.30pm on Tuesday, March 8 at
Forward Emphasis International in Malin Head.
